Sosorbaram – FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme

Sosorbaram Lkhagvaa is 34 years old and works in a greenhouse farm supported by the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme.

While he initially trained to work in railway transportation, limited employment opportunities in his parents’ home village led him to pursue farming. Thanks to the support received from the FAO-China SSC Programme, a local greenhouse farm is able to offer decent rural employment to young people like Sosorbaram.

In this village, the Programme was promoting horticulture production in greenhouses suited to the harsh climate of Mongolia, which allow the vegetable growing season to be extended by several months, supporting the nutrition and livelihoods of the community. He received direct training from the experts deployed under the project in the cultivation of different types of vegetables, the construction of passive solar greenhouses, and integrated pest management in greenhouses. These innovative and sustainable techniques sparked Sosorbaram’s passion for farming.

This young farmworker offered high praise for the quality of the training he received, describes farming as his passion, and now dreams to establish his own farm.
