Pastoralism is still riddled with insufficient and unreliable data, difficulty accessing resources and unfavourable policies. The Hub, through projects and partnerships, seeks to fill these gaps and address those challenges, to improve the understanding of pastoralist livelihoods, their economic and environmental contribution globally and secure their access to resources. Some of the key thematic areas of work of the Hub include:

1. Strengthening the capacity of pastoralist organizations in data collection, management and analysis to provide reliable data and evidence of the contribution of pastoralism to the countries' GDPs for effective policymaking and better advocacy;
2. Disseminating global instruments such as the  VGGT  tool for improved governance of pastoral lands, Technical Guide 6, securing access to resources, advocating and legislating for livestock mobility and promoting the establishment of multistakeholder platforms such as national, regional and local transhumance committees;
3. Sustainable rangeland management through projects such as the Participatory Rangeland and Grassland Assessment Methodology and collaborations such as the Rangelands Atlas to raise awareness on the importance of rangelands and highlight the changes taking place that have significant impacts on rangelands, demanding their protection and restoration.
