Bees are important pollinators of crops and wild plants, but are sensitive to many types of pesticides. Proper assessment of the hazard and risk of pesticides to bees is therefore of crucial importance to sustain agricultural production and maintain biodiversity, and an essential part of pesticide registration. Hazard and risk assessment have been developed mainly for honeybees (Apis mellifera). Formal risk assessment procedures are not yet available for solitary and social wild bees. Therefore, the assessments provided in the Toolkit focus primarily on honeybees. However, extrapolation to other bees, such as bumblebees, stingless bees or solitary bees, is discussed. Hazard and risk assessment methods for honeybees can be found in the Assessment Methods Tool. The required studies, for chemical pesticides on honeybees, have also been added to the Data Requirements Tool under “ecotoxicology
