Pesticide Registration Toolkit

Eliminating highly hazardous pesticides in Southern Africa

14/06/2016

FAO, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention, the Swedish Chemical Agency (KEMI), the University of Cape Town and the Southern African Pesticide Regulators Forum (SAPReF), organized a regional workshop on risk reduction of highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs), from 25 – 29 April 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The overall goal of the workshop was to discuss and build capacity for the identification and risk reduction of HHPs in Southern Africa. As part of the programme, participants were introduced to the FAO Pesticide Registration Toolkit. In particular, it was presented how the Toolkit can be used for the identification of HHPs, their risk assessment and the review of possible risk mitigation measures, and workshop participants practiced the relevant modules. The Toolkit should facilitate both national and regional initiatives to identify and review HHPs.
