SCAM WARNING using the likeness of FAO's name and logo

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) wishes to warn the public of scams/fraudulent schemes purporting to be issued by or associated with FAO and/or its officials and/or partners, using the likeness or derivatives of FAO’s name and logo, seeking to illegally obtain fees as payments or “investments” from unsuspecting members of the public – particularly farmers and fishers in remote rural areas in Mindanao and the Visayas – to be eligible as beneficiaries of FAO projects, promising large paybacks, or to obtain livestock, vehicles, high-paying jobs, or interest-free loans payable in five years.

FAO strongly recommends that members of the public carefully verify the authenticity of solicitations and offers before responding to any such offers. Electronic communications should be disregarded if they originate from other than an FAO e-mail account – @fao.org – or website - fao.org.

FAO does not charge any fees from beneficiaries at any stage of its project implementation as well as in its procurement or recruitment processes, nor does it promise monetary paybacks. FAO does not require or need to know any information relating to the bank account details of beneficiaries or applicants.

Any request deviating from these standard practices should be rejected. Suspicious communications purportedly from, for or on behalf of the FAO should be reported to FAO at [email protected]. Fraudulent schemes may also be reported to [email protected] and/or to local law enforcement authorities for appropriate action.

FAO Programming Framework in the Philippines 2018-2024

FAO Philippines' updated Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2018–2024 serves as a guide to determine the Country Office's programmatic direction and priorities until 2024, anchored on five priority areas enunciated in the Philippine Development Plan 2017–2022, which was updated in 2021 to consider the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CPF is guided by the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2031, which seeks to directly contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

The Philippines is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to the impacts of climate change. An analysis of future climate impacts on agriculture and farming communities indicates that large parts of the country will face further exposure to increased temperatures. Through the baseline study and intensive stakeholder consultation, a range of climate-resilient agriculture (CRA) options were examined for the most exposed agricultural systems in the regions most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

The objective of this project, “Adapting Philippine Agriculture to Climate Change”, is to increase the resilience of rural men and women in areas vulnerable to climate change, whose livelihoods depend on agriculture while transforming the country agriculture towards climate resilience. This will be achieved through improved capacity of farmers to develop CRA enterprises and adopt financially and economically viable CRA practices, and of the government and the private sectors to build supporting systems for scaling up. The project will support the national agriculture and fisheries modernization and industrialization plan (NAFMIP), while providing a systemic approach to climate change adaptation (CCA) in agriculture for the entire country.
