International Year of Plant Health launch event

The launch event for the International Year of Plant Health will take place at FAO headquarters during the 163rd session of the FAO Council on 2 December. This event will discuss the main objectives of the IYPH 2020 including the key role of plant health in addressing hunger, poverty, threats to the environment and economic development.
FAO Director-General Mr Dongyu QU will officially launch the IYPH 2020 in an opening seminar with the participation of ministers of agriculture of Ireland and Nicaragua as well as the Permanent Secretaries of the United Kingdom and Finland, the country championing the proclamation of the IYPH. A panel discussion will follow with interventions from senior FAO staff and representatives of various stakeholder constituencies.
A plant health exhibit in the FAO atrium will promote the link between plant health and the Sustainable Development Goals and include material provided by the Irish National Plant Protection Organization.
