As the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture turns 15, we take a look back at some of the major achievements in the sustainable conservation of plant genetic resources 

Regarded by FAO as one of our top 10 achievements, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture is one of the fastest-growing treaties, today boasting a membership of 146 contracting parties, including the European Union (EU).

This year the Treaty turns 15, and to reflect this milestone, the theme of the upcoming eighth session of the Governing Body (GB-8) of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, is 15 years of saving, caring and sharing. Taking place at headquarters from 11-16 November, over 700 delegates and stakeholders are expected to come together to review the work of the last biennium and make important decisions for the next.
