Climate-Smart Agriculture. Training Manual. A Reference Manual for Agricultural Extension Agents

This manual is designed for a four-day training course on climate-smart agriculture that would take the learner from the basics of climate science to the impacts of climate change and the linkages among climate, agriculture and food security. It contains four modules, each addressing a particular aspect and consisting of several sessions that are held either in plenary, as one group, or in smaller work groups. The content and structure of this manual has been developed and tested through fieldwork involving extension agents and agricultural producers in Zambia, Malawi and Viet Nam.

Training farmers and enhancing food security in Swaziland

Agriculture has traditionally been the backbone of Swaziland’s economy but has experienced severe decline. Its contribution to GDP has decreased gradually over the last two decades due to a number of factors, including recurring drought, chronic underinvestment and the impact of HIV and AIDS. Developing agroforestry in Seychelles

In Seychelles, a move of agricultural production from flat to hill areas is expected for the next years, bringing a risk of both a decrease in food production and degradation of the forests. A development of appropriate agroforestry systems, adapted to local land capacities and markets, is the most appropriate response to counter this trend, while providing a sustainable system of agricultural production based on soil conservation, ensuring food security, improving land use and environmental services, minimizing wildfire hazards and combating invasive species. Improved charcoal technologies and briquette production from woody residues in Malawi

The purpose of this case study is to present a range of bioenergy supply chains and look at how to assess the potential within the chains based on the Bioenergy and Food Security (BEFS) Approach and BEFS Rapid Appraisal tools. The case study has been developed for training purposes, to illustrate the BEFS approach and tools and how they are applied and to present a number of examples of bioenergy supply chains found in countries where BEFS has supported national stakeholders. Food Outlook Biannual Report on Global Food Markets

Food Outlook is published by the Trade and Markets Division of FAO under Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS). It is a biannual publication focusing on developments affecting global food and feed markets. Each report provides comprehensive assessments and short term forecasts for production, utilization, trade, stocks and prices on a commodity by commodity basis and includes feature articles on topical issues. Food Outlook maintains a close synergy with another major GIEWS publication, Crop Prospects and Food Situation, especially with regard to the coverage of cereals.

Addressing the challenges and realizing the potential benefits of migration to improve nutrition and food security in the Europe and Central Asia region

The result of this online consultation will feed on-going FAO projects with ideas on how to attract migrants to invest their remittances into the agricultural sector and to improve their families’ nutrition, advocate sustainable modules with the governments for increased food security and help inform recommendations of the FAO regional plans in the future.
