Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Biodiversity Mainstreaming across Agricultural Sectors 29-31 May 2018

Together with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), FAO is hosting the Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Biodiversity Mainstreaming across Agricultural Sectors, to be held at FAO headquarters in Rome from 29 to 31 May 2018.

This meeting is one of the first activities of the Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform launched last year. The Dialogue will be an open-ended informal meeting bringing together experts and stakeholders from agriculture, forestry, fisheries and the environment sectors aiming at identifying areas of joint action in developing integrated approaches for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, in support of the SDGs, while increasing production to meet the growing demand for food. The Dialogue will be followed by a High-Level Segment on 31 May 2018.

In the run up to the event an e-consultation via FAO’s Food Security and Nutrition Forum will be held to feed into the debate to be held during the meeting.

The Dialogue will provide inputs to the Regional Conferences and relevant Technical Committees of FAO, which will consider biodiversity mainstreaming at their forthcoming sessions. The Dialogue will facilitate coordinated cross-sectoral action on mainstreaming of biodiversity across agricultural sectors to address the SDGs. The dialogue will bring together ministers, experts and stakeholders from agriculture, fisheries, forestry and the environment; take stock of the state of current biodiversity mainstreaming efforts and experiences at different levels; and consider concrete future work of FAO acting as Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform in support of biodiversity mainstreaming within and across agricultural sectors at national, regional and global levels.
