The Port State Measures Support Project (GCP/INT/307/NOR) is operationally active from earlier this month.

The project, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, intends to improve developing countries and Small Island Development States' capability for the cohesive implementation of provision and procedures consistent with the PSMA and related international instruments, regional mechanisms and tools to combat IUU fishing.

Recipient countries will receive assistance to strengthen national policy and legislative frameworks to combat IUU fishing and enhance national means and competencies to carry out coordinated monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) operations to combat IUU fishing through PSMs and complementary MCS tools.

FAO in consultation with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and interested countries will identify project recipients among FAO members in the Africa, South and Southeast Asia and South West Pacific regions eligible to receive Official Development Assistance.

The Project will be carried out by FAO over a period of 12 months.

Norway's funding for the project amounts to USD 1 250 000.
