A participatory Strategy & Action Plan workshop (gap analysis) was carried out from 26 February to 2 March 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The workshop ascertained the need to strengthen national legislation, the institutional set up/coordination mechanisms, and MCS systems and operations.

As a consequence, additional support - in particular for building national capacity to develop and adopt policies and laws consistent with the provisions of the PSMA; to assist in reviewing and strengthening legislative measures to address IUU fishing; to assist in re-designing MCS systems compatible with regional and international standards and requirements, including flag State responsibilities, and; to strengthen public officials’ capacity to effectively prosecute persons or entities engaged in IUU fishing - has been offered to Indonesia.

The FAO Office for Indonesia is finalizing the arrangements for this with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), in consultation with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs.

The workshop was held under the auspices of the Port State Measures Support Project funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation.
