Ecuador, Fiji and Viet Nam have deposited their instruments of accession to the Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing increasing the total number of Parties to the Agreement to sixty.

The sixty Parties include the European Union which counts as one on behalf of its twenty-eight Member states.

The PSMA is the first binding international agreement to specifically target IUU fishing, by preventing vessels engaged in IUU fishing from using ports and landing their catches.

Ecuador is the fourteenth country in Latin America and the Caribbean to become Party to the PSMA. Fiji and Viet Nam are the sixth and eighth countries in the Pacific and Asia, respectively.
