The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is, together with the European Union (EU), in the process of assisting the Fisheries Administration of the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in reviewing its Fisheries Law from 2006.

During this process, which started in 2017 and has involved various development partners and stakeholders, and under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Cambodia, a mission was held from 12-16 of August to establish the status of progress and design a roadmap for future action.

The mission culminated with a Courtesy Meeting to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Veng Sakhon, during which the Kingdom of Cambodia’s interest in acceding to the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate IUU Fishing (PSMA) was confirmed.

Cambodia is expected to become a Party to the PSMA in the coming months.
