Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetHighlights of the Rome-based Agencies on South-South and Triangular Cooperation 2017-2018
Strengthening Collaboration among the Rome-based Agencies (RBAs) on South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC)
2018Also available in:
No results found.During the Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo 2017 in Antalya, Turkey, the United Nations Rome-based agencies (RBAs) - namely the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP) - emphasized that all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are interlinked, indivisible and interconnected, and that their approach to address these commitments must be multi-sectoral, requiring widespread strategic partnerships. This rationale informed the signature of the Joint RBAs Roadmap, in which the agencies committed to strengthen their collaboration to facilitate South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) for the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda). This partnership leverages synergies and complementarities between the RBAs, as well as increases SSTC visibility. In light of the above, consultations at working and Directors’ levels are taking place regularly, creating the conditions for a more harmonized and structured collaboration. -

It has been recognized as a key means of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with particular reference to UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. SSTC initiatives, facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), may involve two or more countries of the global South, sometimes in collaboration with a third party. By sharing innovative development solutions, such as knowledge, policies, technologies and resources, countries are able to overcome challenges that once seemed insurmountable. -
DocumentSouth-South and Triangular Cooperation. Revised edition 2015. 2014There is a growing consensus around the world, affirming South-South and Triangular Cooperation as effective instruments for catalyzing agricultural development. South-South Cooperation (SSC) is widely accepted as a complementary model of development cooperation to the traditional North- South model, in overcoming common challenges and achieving food security, poverty reduction and the sustainable management of natural resources. South-South Cooperation is the mutual sharing and exchange of key development solutions – knowledge, experiences and good practices, policies, technology, and resources – between and among countries in the global south. Triangular Cooperation (TrC) refers to partnerships between two or more developing countries in collaboration with a third partner, typically a developed country/traditional donor, emerging economy and/or multilateral organization to share key development solutions – knowledge, capacity, expertise, experiences and good practices, policies, tech nology and resources.
