Partnership

The Programme is being implemented by an active partnership among various types of organizations involved in enhancing information and communication for development (ICD) in support of agricultural/rural development and food security, as well as organizations from other appropriate sectors, such as telecommunications.

Major partners include:

  • The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) focuses on developing and providing services that improve access to information for agricultural and rural development, and on strengthening the capacity of developing countries to produce, acquire, exchange and utilize information.

  • International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) works with a range of stakeholders on country-specific solutions for increasing rural poor people’s access to financial services, markets, technology, land and other resources. IFAD’s Rural Poverty Knowledgebase offers information on many aspects of rural development, from monitoring and evaluation methods to microfinance.

  • The World Bank:

    • The Agriculture and Rural Development Department (ARD) has a holistic and multi-sectoral approach to rural development, focused on improving the well-being of rural people by building their productive, social, and environmental assets. The principal focal point for collaboration with the BRDD Programme is the SASKI (Sustainable Agriculture Systems, Knowledge and Information) Thematic Group.

    • The Development Communication Division (DevComm) supports the Bank's mission of reducing poverty by providing clients with strategic communication advice and tools they need to develop and implement successful projects and pro-poor reform efforts.

  • The Communication Initiative (CI) seeks to provide a forum for ideas, stories and actions on communication for development, and to connect users to information that will be of value in their work.

  • The Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) is a leading international multi-stakeholder network committed to harnessing the potential of information and communication technologies (ICT) for sustainable and equitable development. Ranging from grassroots practitioners to policy makers, GKP members and partners are innovators in the practical use of ICT for development.

  • The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) is an international non-governmental organization serving the community radio movement, with almost 3 000 members and associates in 110 countries. Its goal is to support and contribute to the development of community and participatory radio along the principals of solidarity and international cooperation.

  • The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is a Canadian public corporation that works in close collaboration with researchers from the developing world in their search for the means to build healthier, more equitable and more prosperous societies.
