Programme

The Programme brings relevant expertise and resources across the international development community into a more coherent and systematic approach. Innovators in many parts of the world are already developing initiatives which, if brought together, will have greater potential than if they remain isolated or fragmented.

Programme Objectives:

  • to increase the availability of information content related to rural areas in digital form.

  • to develop innovative mechanisms and processes for information exchange and communication; and

  • to establish networks and communities of practice in information and communication for development and for exchange of information on agriculture and rural development.

The Stakeholders in the Programme in developing countries are: [more]

  • Rural communities and households

  • Rural service providers

  • Policy-makers and their advisers

The conceptual basis for the programme has been devised through a range of background studies that have drawn particularly on “Livelihoods Approaches”.

The Programme addresses the first Millennium Development Goal, eradicating extreme hunger and poverty, and the Plan of Action of the World Summit on the Information Society , which undertakes to build a people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society.
