Migration is a growing and complex global phenomenon. The links between migration, agriculture and climate change are complex. While the impacts of climate change on agriculture and food security are relatively well established, the cascading effects of climate change on migration and its consequences for agriculture have not been adequately assessed and addressed. There is a need to summarize current understanding of migration, agriculture and climate change nexus, and highlight the challenges and opportunities of rural migration as an adaptation strategy to climate change. This information will be useful to strengthen the context specific policy responses of countries facing this particular challenge especially to harness the potential of migration. In addition, there is a need to highlight field examples potentially contributing to address the migration challenge under climate change by reducing vulnerability and enhancing resilience. The options and mechanisms for promoting collaborative actions to respond to climate-related drivers of migration are crucial. In this context, a book on migration, agriculture and climate change focusing on the complex nexus, opportunities and challenges of migration as a coping and adaptation strategy and context specific responses will be timely.
