Under the theme "Education and
Food for All", FAO considers that primary education is essential
for the rural population to make informed decisions and obtain better
living conditions, something that was restated during the World
Food Summit (Rome, 1996).
Our policies of sustainable development
will promote the total participation and the empowerment
of the population (...) the
access to education and the opportunities for the young people ".
In several international forums, such as the World Education
Forum in Dakar (2000), and with the purpose of combining efforts,
FAO has stated its commitment to assure access for all to a
good quality primary education.
FAO considers that education and food
security need to be taken into account systematically, and
has proposed to be the
focal point for "Education and Food for All". This
page states the proposal of this theme for the initiative of
Education for All.
