South Sudan | Vegetable kit distribution in Juba

Sep 2020

Photos taken during a vegetable kit distribution in Mauna, Juba, on 17 September 2020 in collaboration with World Food Programme (WFP) and Catholic Relief Services. The distribution has been carried out adhering to COVID19 precautionary measures.

With the seeds and basic farming tools distributed by FAO, beneficiaries will establish homestead gardens that require limited space. They will grow their own vegetables in sacks, in boxes or on vertical gardens.

The project "Grow your own vegetable kit: Promoting home gardening for improved nutritional status among vulnerable households in Juba, Nimule, Wau and Aweil towns, South Sudan" funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) directly contributes to mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on food and nutrition security of economically vulnerable families in South Sudan.

FAO and partners are working to improve access to vegetable production inputs, skills and technologies among vulnerable farmers living in and around urban areas. The project is contributing to improving the living conditions of farmers with production capacities by increasing their productivity, diversifying their livelihoods and diets, boosting local market supply and creating opportunities for youth and women.
