Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh

Nov 2017

Since 25 August 2017, more than 621 000 Rohingya refugees escaping violence have crossed from Rakhine State, Myanmar into camps and makeshift settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Firewood collection has stripped local forest to bare earth, leaving refugee and local communities struggling with an ever-dwindling supply of cooking fuel. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is working to support the energy needs of both populations.
