La resiliencia

FAO DG QU Dongyu's video message for Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF)

Dec 2019

Thanks to CERF, humanitarian actors can act fast to save lives. For FAO, this is vital. In crises, saving lives means protecting people’s access to food. That means saving their livelihoods. Some 80 percent of crisis-hit people rely on agriculture. And agricultural livelihoods are extremely time-sensitive. Act too slowly and an entire season is missed. But if we act fast, livelihoods assistance can provide a family with the means to produce enough food for up to a year. This year, thanks to its donors, CERF helped FAO deliver life-saving assistance more than 30 countries – from Somalia to Lesotho and from the Ukraine to Bangladesh. Saving livelihoods saves lives.
