FAO strengthens desert locust surveillance and control capacity in Yemen

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries (MAIF) concluded a training workshop on desert locust surveillance and control in Aden, Yemen. FAO also provided three vehicles to MAIF through a generous contribution from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The five-day training workshop targeted 22 participants from local and central agricultural offices, and and it aimed at enriching their knowledge and improving their skills in desert locust surveying, data collection and analysis and pest control tool utilization, methods and mechanisms. The workshop also covered the types of pesticides used for control operations as well as environmental and health standards, including pesticide storage and handling and first aid.
