Le glossaire contient 418 concepts et définitions, le cas échéant, tirés de publications et de documents de la FAO et d’autres organisations internationales actives dans le domaine du droit à l'alimentation, ainsi que des actes des réunions d'experts sur les questions du droit à l'alimentation et de la sécurité alimentaire.

Complémentant le Guide pour l´évaluation du droit à l'alimentation déjà disponible sur notre site Web, cette nouvelle liste constitue une aide précieuse aussi bien pour les gouvernements que pour l'ensemble des acteurs concernés par la mise en place d'une évaluation du droit à l'alimentation qui soit effectivement basée sur les principes et les obligations internationales en matière de droits de l'homme.

The 13th session of the Human Rights Council is currently taking place in Geneva from the 1st to the 26th of March 2010. Following the High Level Segment on the economic and financial crisis, the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to food was the opportunity to present the reports of the countries he visited on 2009 as well as a thematic analysis on the Agribusiness and the right to food and an addendum on a set of minimum principles to adopt regarding large scale land acquisitions.

The right to food is now explicitly recognised in the Brazilian Constitution. After being approved by both chambers of the Congress on the 3 of February 2010, the Brazilians adopted the Constitutional Amendment Project (PEC 47/2003) which now establishes the right to food as a constitutional human right. The amendment aimed at including the right to food among other social rights that were already part of article 6 of the Brazilian Constitution and that are equally important for living a dignified live.

The 2009 World Food Summit arrived to an end after three days of discussions in which a large variety of stakeholders addressed key issues for the realization of the right to food. While the Plenary Hall witnessed the statements of delegates and international organizations, the round tables were the occasion to debate crucial issues such as climate change, fair trade rules (particularly the Doha Round) and special measures to address global food governance, including the current reform of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS). In the meanwhile, a side event of a wide array of Social Movements, NGOs and CSOs also took place.

Following the launch of the Toolbox held on 15th October, the Expert Panel on “The Role of the Right to Food in Addressing the Global Food Crisis” brought together the views of economists, policy makers, human rights experts and academia to discuss about the most important issues and challenges of the current food crisis. Chaired by the Assistant Director-General of the Economic and Social Development, Mr Hafez Ghanem, the panellists answered specific questions regarding the role of human rights in addressing hunger.

The 2009 World Food Week hosted two important events in which the right to food was at the centre of the discussions relating the current crisis. On October 15th, Mr. Jacques Diouf, Director General of FAO, Mr. Hafez Ghanem, Assistant Director-General of the Economic and Social Department and Ms. Barbara Ekwall, team leader of the right to food, launched the Right to Food Methodological Toolbox: a practical publication containing six volumes covering a wide range of topics such as assessment, legislation, education, budgeting and monitoring in order to implement the right to adequate food at national level.

23 octobre 2009, Rome – La FAO a publié un ensemble d'outils méthodologiques sur le Droit à l'alimentation dans le but de fournir aux pays, aux institutions, à la société civile et autres parties prenantes une série d'instruments efficaces pouvant servir à reconnaître le droit à une nourriture adéquate comme droit fondamental de l'homme.

Le Groupe d’experts sur « Le rôle du droit à l'alimentation pour faire face à la crise alimentaire mondiale » répond au thème de la semaine de l'alimentation mondiale, à savoir « Parvenir à la sécurité alimentaire en temps de crise » et constitue une occasion propice pour se préparer à l'événement phare de la FAO, à savoir le Sommet mondial de l'alimentation, en novembre.

La « Boite à outils méthodologique sur le droit à l’alimentation » est considérée comme une contribution majeure de la FAO au droit humain à l'alimentation; elle a pour but d´offrir une assistance pratique dans la mise en œuvre des Directives volontaires à l’appui de la concrétisation progressive du droit à une alimentation adéquate dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire nationale.
