Give it a listen! Plant health, key to safeguarding adequate food

News - 07.12.2020

7 December 2020, Rome- Did you know that plants make up 80% of the food we eat? Plant health is critical to food security and to ensure access to adequate food for everyone. Plants are nutritious, and can be very affordable.

Yet, each year we lose up to 40% of food crops because of pests and diseases. This leaves millions of people without enough food to eat and seriously damages agriculture - the primary source of income for poor rural communities.

For more on the linkages between plant health and the access to adequate food, you can play the latest FAO podcasts and listen to the Q&A to experts on these areas. Special guests are Marie-Lara Hubert-Chartier, FAO Right to Food Expert, and Ralf Lopian, chairperson of the International Steering Committee of the International Year of Plant Health.
