Seminar on the drafting of the Framework Law for Food Security and Nutrition in Costa Rica

News - 25.05.2016

To present the current drafting process of the Framework Law for Food Security and Nutrition in Costa Rica, a seminar was held at FAO headquarters on 24 May 2016.

The draft Framework Law explicitly recognizes the right to adequate food and reaffirms its justiciability. It also promotes food security and nutrition as a mean to achieve the full realization of the human right to adequate food in the country. In addition, the law foresees interinstitutional coordination and promotes systems that facilitate government planning as well as the assessment of financial actions on food security and nutrition.

The first session of the event, from 9.00 to 10.45 hrs, was dedicated to the presentation of the main aspects of the draft law by the Honourable Javier Francisco Cambronero Arguedas, Parliamentarian of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Costa Rica, while during the second session, from 11.00 to 12.00 hrs, the Honourable Deputy presented the experience of the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean in Costa Rica.

Both sessions were followed by a lively open discussion and rounds of questions and answers with the audience.
