Guidelines for Enchaning the Contribution of Forestry to Poverty Alleviation and Food Security
The guidelines focus on improving conditions of poor people who live in rural areas and depend on forests and trees outside forests for their livelihoods. For interventions to be successful in terms of alleviating poverty and improving food security in rural communities people must have secure land tenure or at least have long-term access rights to forest products and services. Commitment is also required from authorities at all levels and across sectors to build local capacity through training education and research. Participatory planning management and decision-making are fundamental elements of any strategy as well.
