Bahrain--157th country to be bound to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)
Bahrain is the 157th country to be bound to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR). By having accessed* the ICESCR on 27 September 2007, the Bahrain Government has committed itself to guarantee economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to food, to its people. The ICESCR deals with the right to food, which has been recognized in a wide range of human rights instruments, more comprehensively than any other treaty. The overview of all countries that are parties to the ICESCR is available on the website of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights http://www2.ohchr.org/english/bodies/ratification/3.htm.
*"Accession" has the same legal effect as ratification. Accession usually occurs after the treaty has entered into force.
