Workshop in Managua, Nicaragua: "Guide on Legislating for the Right to Food"
The FAO Right to Food Unit organizes a validation workshop on the "Guide on legislating for the Right to Food" in Managua, Nicaragua, from 21 - 24 January 2008. The workshop is an opportunity to discuss the draft Guide developed by the Right to Food Unit with stakeholders and experts, and to formulate recommendations for legislative provisions and the Guide’s overall structure. The Guide on Legislating for the Right to Food aims to provide national law and policy-makers with practical information and guidance for developing or strengthening national legal (and institutional) frameworks on the right to food, consistent with the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and other pertinent norms of international law. One workshop on the draft Guide had been organized in Uganda in October 2007, and another one will take place in New Delhi, India, in mid-March 2008. The Guide on Legislating for the Right to Food is expected to be published in the second half of this year in English, French and Spanish.
