9:00 am - 7:00 pm
Sheraton Rio Hotel & Resort
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Enhancing food security will take both global vision and local action. Strategy and implementation must be linked in order to obtain the Rio vision of food security.

Along these lines, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Word Food Programme and Bioversity International will engage with stakeholders in a focused dialogue to identify path that lead to a food secure future.

The all-day event will focus on:

  • actions for fighting hunger and malnutrition; and
  • strategies to reduce poverty and enhance the resilience and sustainability of production systems.

Participants will discuss best practices and strategy orientations for the future. Discussions will culminate in recommendations that support communities and governments working to  overcome hunger and promote sustainable rural development. Issues will be discussed at three levels of governance:

  1. community/landscape;
  2. national/regional; and
  3. global.

The event will start with a morning session covering a range of technical, management and policy issues related to the challenges of global food security. Three interactive and facilitated roundtable sessions will follow. Discussions on linkages across the three levels of governance will conclude the event, with participants identifying practical recommendations for the future. All four agencies will make the final report of the seminar available on the websites shortly after the event.
