Karen’s main goal during her time with the SARD team involved the development of a framework for categorising the work undertaken by FAO that contributes to SARD which would contribute to the development of a database to assist in reporting the FAOs work on SARD. In pursuit of this, she:
• Consulted with members of the ad hoc SARD Inter-departmental Task Force to develop and refine a typology of the ways in which FAO is currently implementing SARD, including in particular obtaining feedback on two presentations made to the Task Force: “Defining the scope of SARD” and “Developing a framework for SARD”.
• Contributed to the development of criteria to screen and conduct an FAO-wide inventory of SARD-relevant programs, projects and policies, which included consultation with senior FAO staff to scope the work being undertaken by FAO that contributes to SARD;
• Produced an initial inventory of 30 example projects and programs based on the findings of this consultation and incorporated changes as appropriate, following internal review; and
• Performed other duties as required, in conjunction with the SARD team.
