Regional workshop on “Drawing lessons and learning good practices on policies for sustainable livelihoods of mountain people in the Mediterranean region’’ (8-10 September 2006, Tabarka, Tunisia)
This regional workshop will be organised by CIHEAM-IAM Bari, Regional Focal Point for the Mediterranean Basin, in collaboration with the FAO Livelihood Support Programme (LSP) and SARD-M Project.

Approximately 30 representatives of governments and civil society organizations from countries of the Maghreb, Middle-East and Balkan areas will take part in the event.

The workshop will focus on how to support capacity-building mechanisms for integrating sustainable livelihoods perspective and participation in ongoing policymaking processes for SARD in Mediterranean mountain regions.

The main objectives of the workshop are to:

• Share the results of the SARD-M Project policy assessments and other policy-related assessments/activities conducted in the countries;
• Share, compare and discuss the final draft of a paper titled “Scoping Exercise on participation in policy processes” which examines lessons learned on participation, policy and local governance;
• Exchange experiences in processes towards policymaking, implementation and evaluation for SARD;
• Promote discussion around specific key issues identified as relevant in the context of policy, participation and sustainable livelihoods;
• Formulate recommendations and identifying possible follow-up activities at all levels.
