Workshop on “How to best remunerate mountain rural people for their provision of positive externalities”, Vienna International Center, 19th May 2009

Euromontana, SARD-M project, UNEP Vienna and Balkan Foundation for Sustainable Development (Skopje) held in Vienna on 19-20th May 2009 a workshop to present lessons from different cases studies throughout Europe exemplifying the valorisation of positive externalities in the frame of Unesco Biospheres. This workshop was intended for mountain regions of South-East Europe and the Carpathians: participants came from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, FYR Macedonia, Poland, Rumania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine (Heifer Foundation), as well as from WWF.

The workshop confirmed that in some of these countries, positive externalities are already being remunerated, and that there is strong potential interest in South-East Europe and Carpathians areas for this issue in the future in general, and for a better partnership with the organisers and among participants.

The cases studies, the results of the workshop, will also be put on line during the summer.
