Results of policy assessments on the strengths and weaknesses of mountain policies for SARD in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas
A brief summary on the SARD-M Project activities in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas (HKH) is now available.

It presents the main results of the policy assessments for SARD conducted in Bhutan, China (Sichuan Province), India (Sikkim State) and Nepal by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in 2005 and 2006. In each of the countries specific sectors or subjects covered by development interventions were identified, through which the country’s policies, institutions and processes for SARD-focused interventions and priorities could be assessed:
  • Bhutan – Land Use Policies for SARD;
  • China, Sichuan Province – Agriculture and Rural Development Policies for Mountain Areas;
  • India, Sikkim – Horticulture as a Driver of Rural Development;
  • Nepal – The Agricultural Perspective Plan (APP).
Following further discussions made during a regional expert workshop held in Kathmandu from 17-18 July 2006, the documents also include lessons learned, recommendations and proposal for follow-up activities at regional and national levels to improve policies, institutions and processes for SARD in the HKH.
