The directory documents nine success stories of Japanese farmers utilizing sustainable farming techniques. Highlights include recycling household refuse through separation of organic waste for use as fertilizer and alternative marketing of organic products. These individual farmers’ initiatives demonstrate that alternatives to conventional agriculture exist and are being successfully implemented in Japan.

This study revisits a number of projects which were considered to be good practices or successful cases 5 to 10 years ago to learn, in retrospect, about those elements which are most enduring. Retrospective studies in Honduras, Zimbabwe and the Philippines are the basis of the lessons learned about sustainable dimensions of good practices long after project completion.
