Thorsten Arnold

• Support to task manager: Resource mobilisation, correspondence with stakeholders, communication with Major Groups, and contributed significantly to the institutional memory of the SARD group.

• For SARD Initiative: Pioneering work related to a global SARD Resource Facility (RF). Such facility may disseminate tools and practices that contribute to the implementation of SARD and environmental rehabilitation. It would provide outstanding examples of SARD implementation in their socio-environmental contexts. Thorsten suggested that a RF could serve as interactive platform and provides background information to implement SARD from small scales to large impact. Examples should describe SARD implementation as coordinated, cooperative and multi-actor process, rather than as isolated projects. It comprises material for and from diverse civil society actors and a sound, participatory quality check.

• Framing of summary paper on the evolution of SARD, which was widely distributed inside of FAO (building on work from Karen).

• Original analysis on ‘scaling-up good practices of SARD’ and the opportunities that the multi-stakeholder SARD Initiative may offer. His work included contributions to the SARD Retrospective Review questionnaires, and a tentative assessment framework for Scaling-up processes.

• Support to International Forum on Partnerships for Sustainable Development in Rome, March 2004.
