SAVE FOOD: Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction

Food waste: from policy to best practices

FAO Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction (also called SAVE FOOD) is providing knowledge to the students participating in the "Bocconi 4 Expo".

The international competition #FoodSavingBEC (Bocconi EXPO2015 Competition) is organized in partnership with Expo 2015 and realized in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and the European Commission, and with the patronage of UN for Expo, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP).

A first web streamed event for the participating students and stakeholders addressed the theme From Policy to Best Practices and took place on 20 May 2015. FAO presented on Food loss and waste reduction in support of food and nutrition security & sustainable food systems.

Between June 24 and July 1, around 150 undergraduate students from all over the world will spend a week in Milan at the Bocconi campus to study food waste issues and design projects that can contribute to solve this complex challenge. On 26 June 2015 FAO will give a lecture on Food waste prevention and reduction from primary production to end consumer’s level.
