Food waste reduction: EU youth and local authorities

The project “Don’t Waste Our Future!” is building a European Union (EU) alliance of youth and local authorities against food waste and for sustainable development and consumption. The network includes primary and secondary schools along with local authorities and the private sector from Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal and Cyprus.

From February 2015 to December 2016 the project will contribute to increasing the critical understanding, accountability and leading role of young EU citizens in relation to sustainable development, food waste reduction and the Right to Food.

On 18 September the Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction (SAVE FOOD) was invited by the project leader, FELCOS Umbria, todeliver a presentation on Educational opportunities on sustainability – focus on reduction of FLWat a workshop in Foligno. The workshop brought together local authorities, the private sector that provides catering services to local schools, actors involved in waste management and civil society working on the Right to Food.

From 21 to 22 October 2015 in Milan (at EXPO) “Don’t Waste Our Future!” hosted the 1st European youths' forum against food waste and for new models of responsible consumption. SAVE FOOD contributed to the technical and policy debate.

The project is within the 2015 European Year for Development framework and it is funded by the European Union.
