SAVE FOOD Joins Climate Talks

The 23rd annual session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 23) has officially kicked off and for the next two weeks, thousands of delegates are gathering in Bonn for the latest round of the international climate negotiations.

SAVE FOOD, as one of the cooperative initiatives to what is known as the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, will be at COP23 to show progress since COP21 and to highlight how food loss and waste reduction can play an important role in accelerating global climate action.

During the Agriculture Action Day of the Marrakesh Partnership for Global Climate Action, FAO facilitated dialogue on agricultural and food systems issues. A dedicated SAVE FOOD event showcased how responding to the food loss and waste challenge presents a cross-cutting opportunity to drive climate action forward by cutting GHG emissions and boosting resilience and productivity in food systems. This event brought together key stakeholders, including youth, to discuss ways and opportunities for reducing food loss and waste as part of the collective effort to enhance ambitions for climate action through the Marrakech Partnership while delivering SDG 12.3. Progress under the Marrakech Partnership was presented by showcasing concrete actions and collaborations between state and non-state actors.
