FAO
The report Losses and waste of food in Latin America and the Caribbean of the FAO Regional Office says that 6 percent of global food losses occur in the region.

With foods that are lost in the region only in terms of retailing, in supermarkets, street markets, shops and other retailers, more than 30 million people could be fed, that is
64 percent of those suffering from hunger in the region.


FAO Portugal
FAO Office in Portugal visited a new innovative project called Fruta Feia (Ugly Fruit) seeking to fight food waste at the beginning of the supply chain.

SAVE FOOD
The Food and Nutrition Security Workshop was a collaborative consultative event enabled by the World Future Council (WFC), the City of Windhoek (Namibia), the City of Belo Horizonte (Brazil) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The Windhoek Declaration on Food and Nutrition Security was signed on 23 July.


Natural Resources Institute (NRI)
NRI's new Post–harvest Loss Reduction Centre has been established to contribute to sustaining the world's food supply, reducing our carbon footprint and making our world a greener place.


The TandD
GrainPRO Inc. a SAVE FOOD Partner is collaborating on the coordination of the US Federal Initiative Feed the future innovation lab for the reduction on post-harvest losses with the support of a research network. American and African Government and Universities are leading actions to assist effective actions in Ghana, Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Guatemala.


Rockefeller Foundation
New innovations to reduce harvest loss in Africa–120 people identify more than 600 ideas for reducing post-harvest food loss in Africa.


Government of Flanders
Earlier this year a joint declaration was signed by the Government of Flanders and the different sectors of the supply chain to further reduce food losses and create a roadmap with a common strategy, objectives and actions.


Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain
The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment is leading the Más alimento, menos desperdicio initiative. The initiative’s strategy is focused on five work areas of food loss and waste: knowledge, good practices and awareness raising, policy, collaboration and the new technologies development. Innovation in packaging and refrigeration can reduce waste – as can changes n behavior.

Pichler’s project, One Third which was sparked in 2011 by the FAO global food loss and waste data.


Inter Press Service (IPS)
“Food loss and waste are dependent on specific conditions and local circumstances” Eliana Haberkon from FAO’s Office for Communications, Partnerships and Advocacy, explained to IPS.

Yes FOOD Can
Yes FOOD Can project started in Benin last July with meetings with food chain actors, from farmers to exporters, NGOs, youth entrepreneurs networks and agricultural platform. Food waste in Benin is a reality, up to 50 percent losses, but some actors are working to reduce losses at different stages of the value chain. For more information subscribe the Newsletter.
