In response to the urgency and scale of food security and nutrition challenges facing the region, the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa, the Secretariat of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) and the World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Bureau launched the 4th Regional Multi-stakeholder Workshop on Food Security and Nutrition on 28 April. FAO will discuss the potential of the Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction (SAVE FOOD) and its partnerships to contribute to making food systems more sustainable while transitioning to low carbon development. A partnership session during the event has also been dedicated to the Food Loss Waste Protocol, a multi-stakeholder process to develop a global standard for how to quantify food loss and waste. Several organizations are planning international conferences and meetings throughout 2015. The SAVE FOOD initiative is helping to coordinate these conferences to ensure complementary outcomes. The National Jogging Association of Thailand and the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific are organizing a “Run for SAVE FOOD” marathon on Sunday 10 May 2015 in Bangkok, to promote awareness of food loss and food waste issues and to demonstrate solidarity with the SAVE FOOD Campaign in Thailand, to be launched on 25 May in Bangkok. Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Agricultural Research Organization in Israel is signing a memorandum of understanding to form a partnership with the international SAVE FOOD partner World Food Preservation Center. The goal of the partnerships is to reduce post-harvest losses in developing countries. Read more...


EU-FUSIONS
Regional meetings are a good opportunity for stakeholders in the European Union’s (EU’s) Food Use for Social Innovation by Optimising Waste Prevention Strategies (FUSIONS) initiative to move the project forward and obtain insights into innovative ideas for fight food waste.
