Translating food loss and waste reduction into climate action: SAVE FOOD at the first post-Paris Alliances and Coalitions Forum

The first Alliances and Coalitions Global Forum took place in Rabat, Morocco, from 23 -24 June and convened global stakeholders to discuss how Parties and non-Party stakeholders through cooperative initiatives can accelerate climate action on the ground. The work ahead under the new Agenda presents a key opportunity to link food loss and waste reduction with climate action due to its cross-cutting synergies to climate change mitigation and adaptation, food security and nutrition. + READ MORE


The Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction collaborates with the EU Committee of Regions for regional and local policy development

In June 2016 the Committee of Regions (CoR) issued an Opinion on food waste. The FAO Nutrition and Food Systems Division (ESN) and FAO Liaison office in Brussels have contributed to the Opinion of the Committee of the Regions on food waste with knowledge transfer for coherent policy development also in view of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3. + READ MORE


Reducing postharvest losses: a challenge for fisheries in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is providing capacity building to the Postharvest Unit of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Administration of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A training session was organized in Kinshasa for 30 officials from the Administration and decentralized agencies in the provinces of Congo Central and Kinshasa, as well as members of fishers’ and fish merchants’ associations. + READ MORE

At FAO’s Regional Conference for Europe, members called on FAO to work with them on growing food for expanding populations and international markets while using more sustainable practices.
