FAO Staff invited to sample ‘wasted’ food

Small dish to form part of cafeteria menu

Staff, delegates and guests at FAO headquarters this week can enjoy a dish created from food that would normally have gone to waste.

Cafeteria in headquarters is offering vegetable soup with croutons, prepared from food that would otherwise have gone to waste on World Food Day.

FAO has teamed up with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Last Minute Market and Pedevilla to provide the menu option in the 8th-floor cafeteria on World Food Day, Wednesday, 16 October.

It is estimated that we do not eat up to a third of all food produced for human consumption. Reducing food waste can pay a critical part in creating more sustainable food systems; the theme of this year’s World Food Day.
