Land Reform Bulletin

2000-2

Articles in this edition develop several areas and introduce specific experiences relating to land reform that are of particular interest to those involved in land reform in the new millennium, whether as practitioners or as academics. The main thread running through the articles is that of change; how we can help to understand what change means and how it can be managed. In most cases, the articles reflect the experience of experts working around the world as part of the FAO Land Tenure Service and illustrate the development of thinking in these respective areas.

This issue includes the following articles:

  • Defining the peri-urban: rural-urban linkages and institutional connections

  • Common property regimes: origins and implications of the theoretical debate

  • Land law reform in Mozambique: acquired values and needs for consolidation

  • Delimitation of community lands in Mozambique: a participatory training process

  • Rights of ownership, land markets and rural credit

  • Getting in steppe: the evolution of participatory institutions for rangeland management in the Syrian Arab Republic

  • The evolution of land tenure in Egypt: from the reform of Mehemet Ali to the land reform laws of Gamal Abd El-Nasser

  • Indigenous highlands in transition: the case of Ha Giang province in northern Viet Nam
