The First International Workshop on Farm Radio Broadcasting
19 - 22 February 2001 Rome, Italy
The First International Workshop on Farm Radio Broadcasting was held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy, 19 - 22 February 2001.
The title of the Workshop was "Information and Communication Technologies Servicing Farm Radio: New Contents, New Partnerships". It was attended by more than forty participants representing unions, federations and farm radio networks, institutions supporting farm radio, and communication experts as well as representatives from FAO technical services.The participants came from Africa, Europe and North America. Twenty countries were represented.
The workshop addressed various issues, including:
- Are Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs) a threat or an opportunity?
- Can ICTs be useful for rural radio? How?
- What about the digital divide?
The event was also a Forum to share experiences and to facilitate collaboration and partnership, both North-South and South-South.
