E-Mail Conference on gene flow from GM to non-GM populations completed

Research and Technology Development Service
FAO Research, Extension and Training Division

The e-mail conference on gene flow from GM to non-GM populations in the crop, forestry, animal and fishery sectors in developing countries has concluded. This was Conference 7 of the FAO Biotechnology Forum, established with the aim of providing quality balanced information on agricultural biotechnology in developing countries and a neutral platform from which people can exchange views and experiences on this subject.

The e-mail conference ran for five weeks, from 31 May to 5 July 2002. A total of 382 people subscribed to the conference. 60 of them (i.e. 16 %) from 25 different countries submitted at least one message. A total of 32% of messages were from participants in developing countries and 68% from developed countries. All of the messages received, as well as the background document, are available at www.fao.org/biotech/forum.asp. The report of the first six e-mail conferences held previously under the Forum in 2000-2001 has just been published on the web and is available at www.fao.org/sd/2002/KN0501_en.htm.
