This was the keynote address delivered at the Third World Congress of Rural Women in Madrid, Spain, 2-4 October 2002

The Keynote Address delivered to the Third World Congress of Rural Women in Madrid, Spain 2-4 October 2002 reported on "Rural women in the global context – from Rome to Johannesburg and beyond". The keynote speech addresses the impact that globalization has had upon regions, households and individuals, with a particular emphasis on rural women. The address also highlights the issues of rural women which are addressed by FAO, including the recent Gender and Development Plan of Action (2002-2007) and participation in the World Food Summit: five years later and the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
