Typology of decentralization processes: In country rapid survey

A Rapid Survey on Decentralization Processes was launched in November 2002 in more than 70 countries. Its objectives were to collect and subsequently publish available information on decentralization in these countries. The final goal is to establish a typology of decentralization processes, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each group-type and to develop guidelines which help improve the decentralization processes in rural development.

In the first phase of the research, interviews with twenty individuals in different geographical regions were conducted. The results of these first interviews were incorporated into the final questionnaire, which is available in a new CD-Rom, "Typology of decentralization processes: In country rapid survey." In addition to the questionnaire, the CD-rom contains the entire series "Decentralization and rural development" initiated at the Technical Consultation on Decentralization in 1997, as well as links to relevant FAO and non-FAO websites.
