January 2003 Announcement of a new publication From farmer to planner and back: Harvesting best practices
SD-Dimensions announces a new publication available online "From farmer to planner and back: Harvesting best practices". Volume 1, "Case studies from Latin America and Asia" contains the case studies from Latin America (Costa Rica and Honduras) and from Asia (Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan) while Volume 2, "Case studies from Africa and the Near East addresses case studies in Ethiopia, Namibia, Senegal, Tunisia, and the United Republic of Tanzania. These case studies, which were commissioned prior to the From farmer to planner and back workshop, provide an overview of how rural development activities have incorporated gender analysis and participatory methodologies. The case studies served as the background information for the participants in the workshop, and offer readers a detailed look at some of the lessons learned during the implementation of these projects. Volume 3 is entitled "Training for responsive planning". The analysis in the country case studies is organized around six interrelated issues: entry point (determining where to start, e.g. communities, local organizations, district staff, policy-makers or a combination); tools (methods that were used and how they worked); capacity building; gender information; linkages; and institutionalization (creating an enabling environment for mainstreaming gender-responsive participatory approaches).
