Strategies for Gender Mainstreaming and Strengthening Inter-agency Interaction

The strategy report was issued following the Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming Within and Between Institutions which was held from 12-14 June 2002 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and organised by Technical Cooperation Project: Assisting Cambodian Women to Improve Household Food Security and Family Economy.

Food and Agriculture Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Women's and Veterans' Affairs (MWVA) have launched a Technical Co-operation Project. The core purpose of the project is to assist Cambodian women to improve household food security and increase family income.

Under the leadership of MWVA a three-day workshop, was conducted. It aimed at addressing intra and inter-agency interaction for gender mainstreaming (GMS). It was organised with FAO technical support from FAO regional office for Asia and the Pacific and FAO consultant on Gender Mainstreaming.

The participants to the workshop represented Central and Provincial Levels of MWVA, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) of Royal Government of Cambodia, on the invitation of the MWVA. It was held in Phnom Penh from June 12 - 14, 2002.

The focus of the workshop deliberations was on where and how to cultivate inter-agency interaction for integration of gender considerations and advancement of rural women. This document is summary of the "Intra-Ministry Strategy for Gender Mainstreaming" of the MWVA, MAFF, and MRD, as well as the "Inter-Agency Strategy for Gender Mainstreaming" outlining the modalities visualised as Strategy for Interagency Collaboration for gender mainstreaming in agriculture and rural development.
