Mitigating the impact of HIV/AIDS on food security and rural poverty: Results of a multistakeholder meeting and outcomes of subsequent strategy development

Following the 2001 United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS, FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP), together with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) held a workshop, with the aim of developing an effective agriculture sector strategy to combat the HIV/AIDS pandemic. A wide range of stakeholders participated in the workshop and strategies to prevent and to mitigate the impact of the epidemic on rural poverty, rural livelihoods and food security were developed. This report "Mitigating the impact of HIV/AIDS on food security and rural poverty: Results of a multistakeholder meeting and outcomes of subsequent strategy development ", brings together participants' contributions, their discussions and conclusions, and builds upon the work that FAO has been undertaking since the meeting took place.
